Murad Age Spot and Pigment Lightening Gel by Susan Welsh
When it comes to days full of outdoor activities, summer can be a blessing or a curse. For me, summer always means spending hours in sport field watching my daughter playing soccer or my son playing baseball, barbequing, and occasionally, going out to nearby beaches. Seems fun, doesn’t it? Well, it really is! However, can you imagine how hectic my days are?
When I’m going out I hardly ever forget to apply sunscreen. The real problem for me is not about forgetting to apply sunscreen, but it’s about forgetting to re-apply my sunscreen. We all know that even sunscreens with the highest SPF need to be re-apply after several hours, and how many of us always remember to do that?
As the result, I noticed that I began to have freckles and sun spots. They first appeared in my cheekbones and upper nose, and then they spread out to my forehead. They are so persistent that it took me years in finding a skin brightener that can reduce those freckles and sun spots. Finally, after many tries, I found Murad Age Spot and Pigment Lightening Gel.
After using this product for more than 2 months now, I can really see the improvement of my skin. My freckles and sun spots are reduced to almost none!
The secret is behind the ingredients that Murad put into this product:
1. 2% Hydroquinone
I have to admit that this is a quite controversial ingredient. Hydroquinone works by decreasing the formation of melatonin, which is a pigment that is responsible to give skin a brown color, in the skin and it is the most powerful skin lightener available in the market today. However, in some countries, hydroquinone is banned because it is considered to be carcinogenic. In States, FDA still approves the use of it if it is lesser than 4% concentration.
Let me note my personal opinion about this. Hydroquinone is found to be carcinogenic after there have been some evidences founds in rats trials that hydroquinone promotes the growth of cancer cells. However, high concentration of hydroquinone was introduced in those trials and it was consumed orally.
Thus, using a product that contains only 2% of hydroquinone and apply it on my face without literally taking it orally does not worry me too much. There are lots of other ingredients out there that have the same context, but we keep using them anyway because it is very effective.
Still, whether or not your opinion is the same with me, the decision is all yours. If you decide to go with it, make sure you follow the direction correctly.
2. Glycolic Acid (Alpha Hydroxy Acids)
Glycolic acid is the most common form of alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs) used by professional as chemical peel. It helps to improve skin appearance and texture by gradually removing hyperpigmentation, wrinkles, and acne scars.
However, if you have sensitive skin or skin allergy, I do not recommend you to use this product. Please also be cautious to not use this product when you are still having sunburnt or an open wound as hydroquinone may worsen the condition.
